LACK in the studio

March 17, 2015 By Lack Lustre

lack drinksIt’s pretty much a year since Rob, Steve and Jay decided that they should become a trio and, this weekend, they head towards another milestone.

They’ve written a fistful of new tunes, played live a few times but Saturday will see LACK heading to south London to record some material.

The lads are really psyched to be hooking up with Andy at The Recording Studio at The Brook for two days of noise making.

everyone against everyoneRob has this to say about the upcoming sessions:

LACK are really looking forward to entering the studio this weekend as it’s the first time we’ve recorded as a 3 piece!

We’ve been running through the songs we want to record and are excited to hear the fruits of our labour …. God only knows what it’s going to come out like! 😉

The tracks are to be recorded to a demo standard and from that we’ll enter the studio again later in the year to record a proper EP.

This all means so much to the three of us as we’ll be in complete control of what we’re doing which hasn’t always been the way in our past projects. We are three brothers. We are LACK and we’re equals.

Metalli-punk ‘n Roll. See you all soon!

So, there you have it.

Stay tuned to the social channels for live updates, pics and maybe even video over the weekend.

LACK – writing as a band

February 12, 2015 By Lack Lustre

run in to my gunWe decided to give you a bit of an update as it has been a while and we have been asked what’s happening in the LACK zone.

The quick answer is that we’ve been getting together regularly and are concentrating on writing.

LACK is totally collaborative and it feels good. We all have input in to every track. This does mean that seemingly odd elements can suddenly appear in a song depending on how one or more of us were feeling at that moment. But, when you’re creating, you’re creating, right?

We have been bouncing ideas back-and-forth and when beats and riffs stick we build a song around those elements.

It’s great jamming out ideas and hearing them evolve organically. It also means that there’s a little bit of each of us in everything we do. That’s how it should be, shouldn’t it?

We are not aiming to sound like anyone else. We have influences and our favourite artists, of course, but we’re not copying them. We think that our approach to song writing will also prevent us from getting stuck in a rut as each of us has slightly different tastes as well as having that all important huge overlap of common ground.

When we get an idea, we get it down

Ideas for songs and riffs can come at any time.

Thankfully, we all have phones that can record and we’ll sling ideas up to our shared DropBox account and ask the opinions of the other guys whenever inspiration strikes.

If we’re all up for it, we’ll jam it out at the next rehearsal session and see if it sticks. If we’re feeling the groove, it will be a keeper.

We don’t throw anything away though – we might come back to something later that doesn’t fit right now.

We’re not writing to please you

say whatThat might not make sense. You might even be slightly offended.

You see, when you set out to write something you think that people will love, it just won’t happen. How many of you have sat down with the intention of writing a hit? How did that work out?

What we’re doing is pleasing ourselves (not in that way!) with the hope that if we, as music lovers and gig goers, like it so might you.

It’s the old adage that if you’re looking for something you’ll never find it.

What we know

Not much. We have all experienced quite a bit though and we all have opinions – that’s what we write about.

Any one that knows us, knows us. We’re all quite easily read and none of us are clever/sober enough to be fake with anyone. You know that and we know that you know that, so why would we start writing about something we know nothing about?

Getting it out

You will soon be able to hear whether any of this has worked or not by the first week in April hopefully as we’re off to the studio in a few weeks to record our first demo.

Naturally, we’ll also be bringing the fruits of our labour to a stage near you.

Let us know where you want us and together we’ll make it happen.

Happy New Year sLACKers!

December 31, 2014 By Lack Lustre

LACK 2015Well, 2014 was quite a year.

After Rob and Jay decided that they needed a change the forces of the universe… ok, their mutual love for music, pool and beer, pulled them back together shortly after they left their previous band.

With their good friend and ex-bandmate, Steve, back behind the kit it was like the good old days again.

By May it was decided that this noise-making machine should be dubbed LACK and soon more songs were being written.

By the end of the year the LACK lads had managed to play a few gigs including shows in London and Luton, thanks to the kind offers of friends new and old – special hat-tips to Cerberus, Paul at PDM, and Matty and Sonny at Another Winter Productions. The crowds definitely seemed to enjoy LACK’s grungy, metally punk vibe.

After such a positive response to their first shows, Jay, Rob and Steve are really excited to see what 2015 brings.

They have already booked in some studio time to record a demo with a buddy of theirs who just happens to have worked with Ginger Wildheart, Wonk Unit, The Tiger Lilies and many more.

They have continued to write new tracks and are hoping to get out on a mini-tour later in the year.

Thanks to all who have got behind LACK in 2014 and supported the start of this new chapter. The lads look forward to seeing more sLACKers out on the road in 2015!

Here’s to a LACKtastic 2015!

Cheers ‘n’ beers brothers and sisters!

Thanks to Luton and Cerberus

November 7, 2014 By Lack Lustre

LACK george IIIt’s been a week since the lads played The George II with the most excellent Cerberus but things have been very busy in LACKville since then.

This has been the first opportunity that I’ve had to sit down and tap out a huge thank you to team Cerberus and all you lovely Lutonites that came to support the night.

Thank you gif

The LACK lads had a total blast and ripped through their new set complete with new song, ‘Damn’.

The reception from the crowd, and Cerberus themselves, was hugely positive.

That was even better than your show at Harveys

I’ve heard plenty of bands, big and small, cover Helter Skelter but that has to be the best as well as the heaviest

Rob and Jay George IIAfter their set the lads went around dishing out free Halloween Haribo and badges to all that wanted them.

Thanks Luton, and thanks Cerberus, for an awesome night.

What’s next for LACK?

Well, there are plans for something special to happen early in the new year…. Keep coming back to the LACK zone and to the Facebook page to find out what’s going on.

LACK guests with the mighty Cerberus

October 20, 2014 By Lack Lustre

Cerberus and LackIt’s back to lovely Luton for LACK and a show that all the band is really looking forward to.

The venue is a familiar haunt for the LACK lads having played it a couple of times in their previous guise, as well as dropping by for the odd pint or four.

Not only that, but they have been invited along to add some noise to a night run by the excellent Cerberus – a name now more synonymous with good times and great music rather than the triple-headed mutt from the underworld.

You should really come and treat yourself to a Saturday night of great music in good company. What else are you going to do? Watch X Factor and Strictly? Saying that, I plan to be watching Dr Who on catch up armed with a beer and a kebab later in the evening/early Sunday morning.

The venue is The George II, on Bute Street, Luton and it’s all happening on November 1st.

If you’re traveling in by train then it couldn’t be easier – get off the train and head across towards the shopping centre. As soon as you’ve exited the station complex you’ll practically be at the bar of the George!

All the details are, as usual, on the gig page.

Why not slide over to the Facebook event (click on the banner below) and let us know you’ll be there, that way we know how many free badges to bring 😉
